About sexual addiction therapy

The United States is at the vanguard of addiction therapy and counselling, and most particularly, in sexual addiction. There are over thirteen million people across the USA who suffer from the effects of sexual addiction and, consequently, spend an increasing amount of money researching treatment methods for sex addiction. This focus has resulted in the availability of excellent sex addiction treatment centres and programmes, ones which Robert Hudson & Associates are connected to.

Robert Hudson maintains a dialogue with ‘The Meadows’ treatment facility and has attended workshops and conferences set up by ‘The Meadows’. At Robert Hudson & Associates Limited, we draw from the most current research available on sex and love addiction to help support our clients through the difficult process of coming to terms with and controlling their addictive behaviour. The sexual addiction treatment programme run by Robert Hudson & Associates cumulatively lasts no more than twenty weeks plus one weekend in which the group members explore the roots of their addiction and their ability to make progress. The success of the programme is dependent on the individual’s willingness to participate but the programme’s pre and post evaluation forms suggest that attendance greatly improves one’s addiction.

In fact, the programme – one which has been running twice a year for three years – promises great dividends as, in separate groups, more than three quarters of participants have claimed that their addiction has markedly improved. At £2,100.00 excluding VAT for the entire curriculum, the programme is affordable as well as brilliantly located; it is found in the centre of London, right off of Regent Street. Members of the group suffer from various sexual addictions including compulsive masturbation, addiction to pornography, addictive use of prostitutes and sexual voyeurism. The other members of the group function in a similar way to AA, NA and SLAA in that they will understand your situation and, consequently, they will be there in times of crisis.

The group process is separated into 27 units and condensed into five months of weekly sessions. Robert Hudson’s group is rooted in psycho-educational principles and the units and the presentations which they yield facilitate discussion and, subsequently, prompt progress. The opening sessions outline what the group hopes to achieve - to let go of unwanted addictive/compulsive sexual behaviours and to develop sexual behaviours of choice – and how it intends to go about that. The weeks that follow, however, are an intense exploration into the psyche of the sex and love addict. Sex plans and Trauma eggs are constructed, families of origin and current cycles are addressed, art therapy is explored and understanding the cycle of addiction is vital; the units that Robert Hudson presents on are integral to the process of discovery and improvement.

The sexual addiction programme is rooted in psychoanalytic, psychodynamic and cognitive behavioural principles and Robert Hudson draws upon his experience with couples counselling to improve the intimacy of the group setting.Much of the group’s time is spent establishing a dynamic from which everyone can benefit and, as result, addiction can be controlled. Robert Hudson has attended a number of Sexual Compulsivity Training seminars and has since established a programme that is accessible to everyone regardless of the severity of their addiction and one which informs the participants on the basic principles of psychotherapy so as to prevent relapse. Robert Hudson’s treatment programme is not merely a support system but rather a valuable resource of information that also provides honest, open-minded feedback from those who understand.
